Modernising DP World’s Global Intranet

At a glance

DP World, a global trade enabler operating across 150 international locations, needed a modern intranet capable of supporting fast, consistent and engaging communication at scale. Their legacy SharePoint environment had become outdated, overly complex and difficult to maintain, limiting the organisation’s ability to deliver timely, relevant information to its global workforce. Brave & Heart partnered with DP World to lead a full digital transformation—modernising the platform, redesigning the user experience and establishing a scalable foundation for long‑term growth. This multi‑year programme has since evolved into an ongoing partnership focused on performance, innovation and continuous improvement.

Challenge

A fragmented, outdated intranet blocked efficient communication for a global workforce.

Solution

A dynamic, user‑centred redesign created a resilient, scalable intranet for all.

Impact

A unified intranet delivering global reach and achieving more than 10,000,000 views.

Challenge

DP World, a global organisation with over 50,000 employees working across 150 operations worldwide, had been operating on a legacy “classic” SharePoint intranet that had remained largely unchanged since 2001. Over time, the platform had become heavily customised, fragmented, and difficult to maintain—resulting in a complex digital environment that no longer met the needs of a modern, fast‑moving workforce. Outdated components and inconsistent site structures limited the ability of the Global Communications team to deliver the right information to the right employees at the right time, creating friction across 14 departments and hundreds of pages globally.

The scale of modernisation required was significant. Years of bespoke configurations meant the platform lacked flexibility, stability, and alignment with DP World’s strategic objectives. Any upgrade risked disrupting critical access to information and internal processes. The challenge was not only to modernise the intranet but to do so in a way that preserved business continuity while laying the groundwork for future growth.

DP World needed a stable, intuitive, cloud‑ready solution capable of supporting global communication, rapid content updates, and evolving business priorities—while transforming employee experience and ensuring every region could benefit from a unified, modern platform.

“It was vital we modernised our Intranet experience to deliver a Global Communications platform that allowed us to deliver vital information to our employees across the world, but with a flexible platform that grows and expands.”

Solution

To modernise the intranet and create a platform capable of supporting a global workforce, we delivered a phased, insight‑driven transformation focused on speed, stability, and long‑term scalability. We replaced the outdated, heavily customised classic SharePoint environment with a flexible, cloud‑based Microsoft 365 architecture, establishing a modern foundation for future growth.

Working in three‑month delivery cycles, we prioritised high‑impact areas to deliver immediate value. Within the first three months, we launched a fully modernised global landing page for more than 50,000 employees worldwide. Subsequent phases modernised 17 sites and hundreds of pages, introducing refreshed design, intuitive navigation, and modular components that made content management faster and more consistent.

When COVID‑19 emerged midway through the programme, we responded within seven days by creating a dedicated resource hub that provided employees with rapid access to critical updates and tools. Alongside development, we strengthened governance, streamlined publishing processes, and trained internal teams to ensure long‑term sustainability. The full transition was completed within twelve months.

“Working with Brave & Heart was fun and a great learning experience. Their team actively listened to our vision; they were quick to respond to our requirements; and offered creative solutions to achieve our objectives. They left us fully skilled up to adeptly manage our own content. This has enabled us to engage effectively with our stakeholders by delivering easily accessible news, insights, tools & training.”

Impact

The intranet modernisation programme created a transformative shift in how DP World communicates, collaborates, and engages its global workforce. By launching a modern landing page and key departmental sites within the first three months, the organisation immediately delivered fresh news, relevant information, and an enhanced experience to its worldwide employee base. As additional departments were migrated in structured phases, teams became better equipped to publish content, showcase initiatives, and provide seamless access to essential tools and documents.

The rapid delivery of the COVID‑19 resource centre in less than seven days proved critical during a period where fast, clear communication was essential. This responsiveness demonstrated both the flexibility of the modern platform and the strength of the partnership between Brave & Heart and DP World.

Now in our sixth year as DP World’s development and management partner, the intranet continues to perform exceptionally well, supported by ongoing enhancements, training, and global expansion. Its sustained success is reflected in over 10 million views in 2025, reinforcing its role as a unifying, resilient communication engine at the heart of DP World’s global operations.
